The largest city in Aotearoa New Zealand, Auckland lies on a narrow strip of land near the top of the North Island. Surrounded by two harbours (Manukau and Waitematā) and edged by hundreds of kilometres of stunning coastline, Auckland has garnered the moniker ‘City of Sails’. Although, with the current hyperactive state of the real estate market, some might call it the City of Sales.
As the commercial hub of Aotearoa New Zealand with a population of around 1.6m people, Auckland attracts international and local business investment, with many organisations situating their headquarters in the central city district, satellite commercial suburbs and industrial areas.

Consistently scoring high rankings on global liveability surveys (topping the 2021 Global Liveability Index), Auckland offers a climate that sits comfortably between temperate and subtropical, and an inclusive society imbued with the rich influences of Māori and Pacific cultures. It’s clear to see why the city continues to attract new residents and businesses.
The population of greater Auckland is predicted to grow to 2.3m by 2048, with infrastructure and construction development projects crucial to providing adequate housing, education, retail and health services for residents.
One major roads and transport infrastructure project – the Hamilton-Auckland corridor – connects Auckland with the fast-growing city of Hamilton 120km to the south in the Waikato region, providing faster access and creating new residential and business developments along the corridor.

Along the Hamilton-Auckland corridor on the Southern Motorway–State Highway 1, the suburb of Pokeno is experiencing rapid growth, with new housing developments extending into what was previously dairy farming land, as shown by these images captured over one year.

The impact of another large residential development can be seen at Drury, about 35km south of Auckland, as dairy farmland is cleared and made ready for development into housing subdivisions.
